Kermode & Mayo's Extra Takes (2022-05-06)
You can read my thoughts about the new podcast, Kermode & Mayo's Extra Takes, here. Below is a list of the things that piqued my interest from the first episode
Disclaimer! This is not an exhaustive list of films or shows discussed or recommended on the podcast. These are just the things I want to watch after listening to the episode. I don't list the films or shows I've already seen or those that don't interest me for whatever reason.
This Much I Know to Be True (2022). Film of the week. Much debate surrounding Nick Cave's ceramic abilities.
Your Name (2016). Possibly Ghibli-esque anime. Recommended by Mark on the BBC show previously but mentioned by a listener.
The Essex Serpent (2022). TV show based on a novel of the same name. Tom Hiddleston interviewed, wasn't reviewed. Possibly snakey. Worth watching to scrutinize Claire Danes' English accent? Director Clio Barnard made The Arbor (2010), which I liked a lot.
Coming Home in the Dark (2021). Listener recommendation. Horror, so low IMDB score can be ignored.
Grace of My Heart (1996). 'One of the greatest and most overlooked films of all time'.
Bait (2019). Listener says it 'looks like someone's GCSE Drama project'. Sounds like Mark disagrees. I need to check out this director, Mark Jenkin.
Minor observations:
There is a new MCU film or show out, but this statement is seemingly true of every day of the past decade. Something to do with a multiverse. Call me a cynic but it sounds like this 'conveniently' allows any and all prior Marvel IP to be deployed at will. I'm sure some of these films/shows are very good, but I have absolutely no interest in this corporate behemoth, and I probably won't write about the MCU at all here, even if it features heavily in the podcast.
I already saw The Northman (2022) and loved it.
Tom Hiddleston seems very nice.
